This untitled collage was made by Bahman Mohasses around 2006. It's a striking composition, divided vertically into fields of red and beige, setting a stark backdrop for the figure. The figure itself is a study in contrasts. Its face is obscured by a pale mask, a 'B' inscribed upon it, suggesting anonymity or perhaps a veiled identity. The mask is juxtaposed against flowing blonde hair, a surprising element that adds to the work's enigmatic quality. The black form drapes like a heavy cloak and dominates the lower half of the collage, grounding the figure while simultaneously contributing to a sense of confinement or concealment. The extended hand is the most poignant aspect. It’s as if the figure is either gesturing a warning or pleading for connection. The collage invites us to consider how constructed identities can both conceal and reveal aspects of the self.
