Editor: So here we have Walter Sickert's "The Piazzetta and the Old Campanile, Venice," from the Tate Collection. It feels almost ghostly, this hazy rendering of such an iconic place. What can you tell me about it? Curator: Note the repetitive, almost mechanical marks used to depict the Venetian scene. It's a clear indication of the printmaking process. How does the mass production of such images affect our understanding and consumption of Venice as a commodity? Editor: That's fascinating, I never considered it from that perspective. I was so caught up in the atmosphere. Curator: Sickert presents Venice as a place manufactured for consumption. Editor: That's given me a whole new appreciation for the message behind this image and its creation.
