Andrew Rodriguez Luna created “Campo de Ancesterias, Ongeles-sur-mer” using etching. Luna, a Filipino artist who studied in Paris, made this work during a period of great social change and political upheaval in Europe and the Philippines. The print is imbued with an emotional weight that speaks to the search for identity and belonging. In the piece, two figures seem to be looking for recognition, perhaps from a place of history or ancestry. Luna seems to ask how identity is shaped through familial or inherited ties. Is it chosen or inherited? His work develops alternative narratives, inviting viewers to consider the complexities of cultural identity. Luna calls out how the search for the past informs identity, while reflecting on the personal and emotional dimensions of these explorations.
