Angel Planells made this surrealist painting with oil paint, and it's wild! The colors are so gentle, almost pastel, which gives it this dreamy, otherworldly feel, like a memory fading at the edges. Check out how Planells plays with the texture. Some parts are super smooth, like the sky, and then you’ve got these rough, almost gritty bits, like the rocks and that tree stump, creating a really tactile experience. It’s like he's building up these layers of reality and unreality, right on top of each other. I am completely drawn to the water flowing out from the tree stump the woman is standing on! It is so unexpected, yet it pulls the whole piece together. It’s the kind of unexpected twist that reminds me of the work of someone like Dorothea Tanning; both artists just go their own way, and create conversations on the canvas.
