Georgia O'Keeffe made this painting of a Jack-in-the-Pulpit, probably in her studio, with oil on canvas. Look at those colours and how they blend! O'Keeffe just lets them bleed into each other. That's what it's all about for me, the process, not the product. You can really feel her experimenting, like she's discovering something new with each brushstroke. I find the texture super interesting because it’s so smooth, almost like she's trying to hide the fact that it's a painting at all. But then you get up close and you can see the subtle variations, the way the light catches on the surface. That dark, gaping void is so inviting, yet so… final. It reminds me of some of Hilma af Klint’s more abstract paintings, where she's also exploring these hidden dimensions. I love how art is this ongoing conversation, a constant back-and-forth of ideas and feelings. So whatever you see in this painting is valid. It's all part of the fun.
