Flowers in Vase 

Ibrahim Calli painted "Flowers in Vase" with oil on canvas in what appears to be the mid-20th century. Calli was Turkish, and during his lifetime, Turkish artists were wrestling with how to incorporate Western techniques without abandoning their cultural identity. The painting's loose brushstrokes and focus on light reveal an Impressionistic influence from French art, a style that became popular in Turkey in the early 20th century as Turkish artists began studying in Europe.
