Editor: So, this is Per Brandin’s “Guard, Reactor Building, Brookhaven National Lab.” The black and white tones create a somber mood. What's your take on this piece? Curator: Well, it's got this directness, doesn't it? This man, staring right at us, the uniform...it's about authority, sure, but also vulnerability. He's guarding something important, a reactor. Do you think he feels the weight of that? Editor: Perhaps. I hadn’t considered his potential vulnerability. Curator: Brandin's catching a moment, a human moment amid a potentially dangerous place. I wonder what the story is behind that magnificent moustache. Editor: I agree! It’s like there's a whole story etched on his face, and in that incredible moustache! It makes you think beyond the uniform.
