Alfred Freddy Krupa made this Nude in monochrome. The torso is almost sculptural. The contrast here between the bright flesh and the darkness around it really creates the mood. I can feel the artist, alone in the studio, circling this form. It feels a bit rough, incomplete. The unbuttoned jeans adds a contemporary flavour to an otherwise very classical form. I like the way the form is cut off at the neck. It reminds me of a classical Roman sculpture, excavated, but not quite whole. I wonder if that's what Krupa was thinking when he made this? It's like he's inviting us to look at the female form in a new way. That ongoing conversation that artists have across time, inspiring each other’s creativity. It embraces ambiguity, and allows for multiple interpretations.
