Gordon Parks's photograph, Market Day, Rue Mouffetard, captures a slice of Parisian life with such texture and feeling. It's not just about what's depicted, but how the blacks and whites create this mood, almost like a memory fading in and out. Look at the man with the cigarette – you can almost feel the roughness of his sweater and the smoke swirling around him. The texture of the produce, the handwritten signs, and the faces of the people create layers of depth, telling their own stories within the frame. Parks, like Brassai, had a knack for capturing the poetry of everyday life. But Parks also did it with a social conscience. This image lingers in your mind, sparking a conversation about the lives of ordinary people. Art doesn’t always give you answers, but it makes you wonder, and isn't that the whole point?
