This is the back of a postcard to Philip Zilcken, originating from France. The stamp in the upper right is particularly revealing. We see two figures intertwined in what seems to be a classical embrace. This motif, resonant with images of Eros and Psyche from antiquity, speaks of transcendent love and connection, but here, stamped and delivered through the mundane postal system. The scene reminds me of similar couplings in Renaissance paintings, where classical ideals were revived, but always with a new, contemporary inflection. The stamp, a humble object, becomes a vessel carrying potent symbols of unity and affection across distance. The act of sending a postcard itself becomes imbued with this deeper emotional charge, engaging both sender and receiver in a dance of subconscious communication. The echoes of ancient gestures are passed down through time, altered yet persistent.
