Editor: Jason Limon's "Push," created in 2019, presents a curious tableau. The use of skeletons, against a banner of sorts, strikes me as simultaneously whimsical and morbid. There's this inherent tension, almost like a carnival of the macabre. What do you make of this peculiar piece? Curator: It does possess a peculiar charm, doesn't it? Limon has a knack for juxtaposing the playful with the profound. The skeletons, classic symbols of mortality, are presented here in almost a cartoonish manner, stripped of their inherent dread. Notice how the banner, with the word "Push," becomes this liminal space – almost a doorway – between states of being. Editor: A doorway between states... Interesting! I hadn't considered it that way. But why "Push?" What do you think he’s pushing us toward – or away from? Curator: Ah, that's the question, isn't it? Perhaps Limon is playfully nudging us to confront our own anxieties about mortality, to "push" past the fear and find some amusement in the absurdity of it all. Or perhaps it's a "push" towards acceptance. I feel the overall experience is about challenging perceptions. Don't you find a humorous element in its juxtaposition of seemingly contradictory imagery? Editor: Absolutely. It’s definitely thought-provoking, making you ponder the boundaries we create around life and death. It makes mortality seem almost… approachable? Curator: Exactly! It's as if Limon's saying, "Hey, it's okay to laugh in the face of the inevitable." Art that reminds us not to take everything so seriously. Did you notice the lighting bolts near the central figure? Editor: I did! It's amazing to look at each element now and observe the complete change to our original understanding of "death and skeletons", because I see what you mean! Thank you for sharing! Curator: My pleasure. Sometimes, all it takes is a little "push" to see things from a new perspective.
