Andre Dunoyer de Segonzac made this print, *La Table apres dejeuner,* with ink on paper. It's all about the lines, right? They’re scratchy, immediate, and loaded with information about the light in the room. You can almost feel the sun streaming in through the window. Look at the tablecloth, at the way the plaid is rendered with these quick, decisive marks, so full of energy. The cross-hatching gives it volume, but it's also kinda loose, like a casual sketch. It’s not precise, and it doesn’t need to be; this is art as a process of observing and capturing a moment, not rendering a perfect image. The whole scene reminds me a little of Bonnard, that kind of intimate domestic space, but with a more graphic punch. I love the way these artists can suggest the world with the bare minimum of detail, leaving space for our own imaginations to fill in the blanks. That’s what art is about, right? An invitation to see and feel a little differently.
