Dimensions height 275 mm, width 189 mm

Daniël Marot created this print of a four-poster bed, or 'Hemelbed', using etching techniques. The composition is dominated by the bed itself, an object of obvious opulence and complex construction. Note how the density of lines increases towards the bed, drawing our eye and creating a sense of depth in the interior space. Marot was a designer deeply influenced by the French Baroque style, and this is evident in the symmetrical arrangement and the rich ornamentation. Consider how the lines and forms create a visual language that speaks of power and luxury. The bed, therefore, is not just furniture; it's a statement. The very structure of the room and the bed, with its heavy drapes and sculpted figures, can be seen as a stage for aristocratic life, inviting us to consider the semiotics of space and decor. The image, in its lines and forms, reflects the values and social structures of its time.
