This silver "Trencher Salt" was crafted by Bartholomew Le Roux, a prominent English silversmith who lived from 1663-1713. Dating from 1690-1710, the diminutive vessel (only 1 5/16 x 2 3/4 in.) is a fine example of Rococo style with its delicate floral and scrollwork engravings. The Trencher Salt, a small dish used to hold salt at the table, is currently in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
