This stained glass detail of the Life of Christ in Eglise Saint-Sulpice de Fougères by Ludovic Alleaume uses lead and coloured glass to capture a moment from the Bible. I can imagine Alleaume carefully arranging each piece of glass, a puzzle of color and light. What was he thinking as he chose that particular shade of blue for the man’s robe, or the muted mauve of the sky? Each color choice, each line, feels deliberate, aimed at evoking a certain mood, a certain feeling of reverence. The figures have an ethereal quality as if they are emerging from the light itself. It's as though he’s inviting us to see not just with our eyes, but with our souls. And that’s what painting, in any form, is all about, right? It’s about opening up a space for something new to be felt and understood. Alleaume’s work isn't just about telling a story; it's about creating a moment of reflection.
