Francis Naranjo’s installation, “En un país lejano, Utopos,” invites you into a space where simplicity speaks volumes. The pale, almost blush-toned lighting bathes the minimalist forms. It looks like you could touch the texture of the marble floor. See how it reflects the soft light, making the space feel both solid and dreamlike? The repeated, blocky forms suggest a kind of architectural language, but one that feels stripped down, almost like the essence of building. Notice the cross shape at the far end of the room, and the individual blocks attached to the wall. Each element is so carefully placed, it makes you wonder about the nature of art as an environment. It brings to mind artists like Donald Judd, who used repetition and simple forms to create powerful spatial experiences. Naranjo leaves plenty of room for your imagination. It’s about creating a space for contemplation. It's an open ended question about what it means to make art in a place that embraces ambiguity.
