This ceramic plate with an image of a moth was created in Veracruz, Mexico. Though undated, it's understood to be from the Classic period. Moths often appear in Mesoamerican art and mythology, commonly linked to transformation and the spirit world. In some cultures moths are seen as symbols of the soul or as messengers from the afterlife. Their presence in art might reflect beliefs about the cyclical nature of life, death, and rebirth. This plate invites us to reflect on our own transformations and evolutions. It prompts a conversation about identity and the processes of becoming. Who are we, who were we, and who do we wish to become?
