Border Tile 1881

This small, rectangular tile, "Border Tile", was created by the Low Art Tile Works in 1881. The tile features a simple yet elegant design of an interwoven basket-weave pattern in black and white. The tile's small size suggests it was meant to be used as a decorative trim element for larger architectural pieces. The Low Art Tile Works, founded by brothers J. and J. G. Low, were known for their high-quality tiles with a wide range of patterns and colors. The tile is now part of the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
