Julio Le Parc created these two Cartones cambiables, or changeable cardboard pieces, as part of his exploration into kinetic art. Le Parc emerged from a generation of Latin American artists who sought to engage directly with social issues. He was deeply committed to democratizing art, challenging the traditional roles of artist and viewer. Le Parc wanted to create art that was accessible to everyone, not just the elite. He saw art as a tool for social change, a way to awaken people's perceptions and challenge their assumptions. In these Cartones cambiables, we see a series of vertical cardboard strips, each painted with different segments of geometric shapes. As viewers move around the pieces or manipulate the strips, the shapes appear to shift and change, creating an engaging visual experience. Le Parc's work invites us to reconsider our relationship with art and the world around us. He shows us that perception is not fixed but is always in motion, shaped by our individual experiences and perspectives.
