Athlete 

This is Militia Petrașcu's bronze sculpture, "Athlete". While its creation date is unknown, Petrașcu, working in the first half of the 20th century, lived in a world undergoing massive shifts in gender roles and cultural norms. Though working within the traditional medium of sculpture, this piece reflects the changing image of women during that time. Here, Petrașcu presents a figure of strength and resilience. The athlete stands with a sense of defiance, looking upwards. The body is muscular and confident, challenging traditional, passive representations of the female form.
