This photograph of the Russian Church in Geneva exists, we think, because someone wanted to capture it, maybe to remember it. The image is soft and muted, like an old memory, and yet it has captured the hard reality of architectural space. I am thinking about the artist and how they were drawn to the onion domes, which are a very specific shape, like a tear drop but upside down? I wonder if they were thinking about the meaning of the building, the ritual and the people who gathered there? What were they hoping to see and find? It's easy for me to feel how connected we all are when I see images like this; artists are always in conversation with each other, and we are all just trying to figure out how to communicate with each other. What’s so nice is that the photo offers this quiet presence for us to explore.
