Rose Freymuth-Frazier made this painting of a bunny, probably in her studio, using oils. Imagine being Rose, layering the white fur of this bunny against that velvety black background. Is the paint thick or thin? I’m thinking it's pretty lush, right? She's built up the body of the rabbit with these subtle strokes of white, catching the light just so. And then the pearls scattered around, like little treasures. The gesture of painting each pearl—that's so deliberate and thoughtful. This painting reminds me of other artists who are playing with realism but adding their own twist, like Lisa Yuskavage, maybe? Or even back to Manet, with his still lifes. It’s like Rose is in conversation with them, but also doing her own thing, and like them, making something that is about much more than a bunny and some pearls.
