This undated work, simply titled ‘Chair,’ is by an anonymous artist and made with what looks like graphite on paper. The artist’s hand is evident through the architectural style linework. You can see the under drawing and geometric layout underneath the final drawing. The three views of the chair give me the impression that this drawing was made by a craftsman perhaps, not necessarily an artist in the fine art sense. The artist has a material understanding of the way the chair fits together, you can see it in the multiple views. It's like looking at Picasso! I keep thinking, who made this? I am reminded of Vija Celmins in her approach to a kind of hyperrealism that is deeply mediated by the hand. Art is a conversation, sometimes we talk across time.
