Edgar L. Pearce made this drawing of a Pa. German Chest with what looks like graphite and watercolor. The flat color gives it a clean look, but the perspective makes it seem like it's tilting. It’s cool to see this chest documented in a drawing. I can imagine Edgar being fascinated by its history and charm, and wanting to preserve its image on paper. I think it’s great when artists get interested in things around them. I wonder if the original chest was brightly colored or more muted, and what was going through the maker's mind when they were painting it? Did they know how to draw perfectly, or were they just winging it and having fun? The heart shapes look like fat snakes. And what's up with that star? It doesn't seem quite centered. It is funny how the act of observing something transforms it.
