Albert Julius Olsson made this painting, Moonlit Shore, with what looks like oil on canvas. I can imagine him there with the waves crashing, and what he's trying to do is not just reproduce the scene but actually get that feeling across. It’s not just the color of the water, but the weight, the movement, the sound! See how the brushstrokes capture the surface of the water? It must have been hard to create all of that texture! I wonder if he built up the paint over time, like coraling the sea onto the canvas. Or maybe he was trying to catch a glimpse of something deeper within himself? This painting reminds me that we are all connected. Olsson would have been looking at the sea. I'm looking at Olsson! It’s like we’re all having this conversation across time.
