Editor: Here we have Monk Kenjin’s “Account of the Goddess KichijÅten (Srî-laksmî), from section 16 of the Golden Light Sutra.” It really does look like a page from another time, doesn't it? The script is so precise, almost mesmerizing. What do you see in it? Curator: Well, it speaks to me of devotion. Imagine the monk painstakingly writing each character, a spiritual act in itself. The reddish paper and blue ink lend it an ethereal quality, almost like a whispered prayer made visible. I wonder what Kenjin hoped to convey with this sutra excerpt? Editor: That's beautiful! I hadn't thought about the act of creation as devotion. Curator: Art invites us to step into another's experience. Perhaps even feel a touch of the divine, wouldn’t you agree? Editor: I think so. It's definitely given me a new perspective on the piece.
