Ernst Ludwig Kirchner made "Naked Women on Meadow" with oil on canvas, and when you look at it, you see that process is really the point. The color palette is bold, you know, with those unexpected greens and purples smushed together. It looks like the paint was applied quickly, maybe even a bit carelessly, which actually gives it a really lively feeling. I like the way he's used these thick, raw lines to define the figures, especially that funny hand on the left - it's almost like a little scribble, but it totally works. It makes you think about Matisse and his free approach to colour and form. Kirchner is part of an ongoing conversation about how to represent the world, embracing all its messiness and ambiguity.
