This brass and wood log timer, created by Rasmus Dekker between 1795 and 1812, measures approximately 41.3 cm in height and 8.6 cm in diameter. The log timer, an essential navigational tool, was used to measure a ship's speed through the water by calculating the distance traveled over a set period of time. The timer is intricately crafted with a brass casing and a wooden frame featuring a numbered scale and an inscription identifying the maker, “R. DEKKER.” The brass top of the timer features the inscription "C88," suggesting a serial number or identifier for the specific device.
