G. Hidderley made this photograph of a quay in Dordrecht with O.W. de Wolf's moored ship, in tones that feel so washed out and grey they almost feel like a memory. It's got that dreamy, soft-focus thing going on, probably from the old lens. Check out the texture on the water. See how the light catches it in these little dashes, making the surface look almost solid. The boat seems heavy, settled in, like it's part of the landscape. I wonder what it’s carrying, who’s on it, what’s it doing. It's like the negative space has its own kind of density, filling the scene with this quiet energy. It reminds me of some of the early landscape photography, like Gustave Le Gray, but more personal, maybe? Like a snapshot from a dream. It's about looking, not just at something, but through it, letting the world blur a little at the edges.
