Sally Gabori made this painting, *Dibirdibi Country*, with these big blocks of colour and bold black lines. Right away you can see that this is all about the process, that the act of painting itself is just as important as whatever Gabori is depicting here. Look at that great smear of orange in the upper right - how it's been slapped on with such confidence and ease! You can practically see the bristles of the brush and the curve of her wrist as she laid down that gorgeous colour. And then there's that block of teal at the left, those strokes just going every which way. I love how the pinks and purples pop all over the canvas. This feels a little like a Joan Mitchell painting, but much more free and untamed. Like Mitchell, Gabori invites us to see the world in a new way, and shows us how there is beauty to be found in the simplest of gestures.
