The Annunciation. Archangel Gabriel 1030

This mosaic of the Archangel Gabriel is found within the Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, Ukraine, made by Byzantine artists at an unknown date. Byzantine art was not just about religious expression, it was a key instrument of imperial power.
