The Ultimate Bundle (Obama's portrait) 

Kaloust Guedel constructed "The Ultimate Bundle (Obama's portrait)" from found materials, including fabric scraps and what appears to be newspaper. The artwork’s material presence is defined by these humble origins. The silvery newspaper base, partially torn, evokes ephemerality, while the colorful textile scraps provide textural contrast. The work is assembled rather than sculpted. Guedel has engaged with the tradition of collage and assemblage, processes more closely associated with craft than fine art. The choice of materials and methods speaks to broader issues of labor and consumption. The use of recycled newspapers as a base, reminds us of the relentless production of news media and its quick obsolescence. Discarded fabric offcuts suggest a world of mass-produced clothing.
