Maria Bozoky made this watercolour and ink work, Park View, at an unknown date. Isn't it funny how just a few strokes can make you feel like you're standing in a park? Bozoky’s use of watercolour here is so delicate, like she’s barely touching the paper. But then, these decisive black ink lines come in, adding this whole other layer of energy. Look at how she uses these lines to define the shapes of the trees, almost like a child's drawing, but with this sophisticated understanding of space. The way the colours bleed into each other gives it this dreamy quality, like a memory. There's this one spot, right in the middle, where the green and the brown meet, and it’s like the whole park is breathing. It reminds me a bit of Milton Avery, that beautiful simplicity. It's like Bozoky is saying, hey, art doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to feel real.
