Bernadette Resha made this painting of a bowl of cherries sometime in 2010. The brushstrokes are big and bold, and the colors are so cheerful, aren't they? You can really see the artist enjoying the process, not worrying too much about getting everything "perfect." I love the way the light hits those cherries! Look at the color on the fruit's surface, it really does look like a bowl of cherries! Resha's used thick paint, you can almost feel the texture of it. There's something about the way Resha handles the paint here that reminds me of Fairfield Porter – both artists share that loose, almost childlike approach to representing everyday objects. Ultimately, this painting is about joy. It’s about savoring the simple things, the sweetness of life, even when it might seem a little messy or imperfect. Just like art, it's about finding beauty in the everyday.
