Kateryna Bilokur made this portrait of her nieces, in what looks like oil on canvas. The muted, soft colors and the light, airy brushstrokes create a dreamlike atmosphere. I'm thinking about Bilokur, imagine her standing there, brush in hand, trying to capture the essence of these young girls tending to the flowers. You can almost feel the warmth of the sun on their faces, the gentle breeze rustling through the leaves. There’s so much tenderness in this painting; the way Bilokur renders the details of the scene with such care. I love the way she paints the water pouring from the jug, it looks so fresh! I can only imagine what it must have been like for her, a woman artist in her time, finding solace and inspiration in the beauty of the natural world. I'm curious about the dialogue between artists across time, each building upon the ideas and techniques of those who came before. Painting, it's an invitation to embrace ambiguity, to explore multiple interpretations, and to find new meaning within the art.
