This is an anonymous photograph of the south facade of Kampen Town Hall, made sometime in the past. I love that there is a feeling of process in this image. It's like a faded memory or an echo of a grand building, caught in sepia tones. The texture is gorgeous, isn't it? The rough, weathered surfaces of the bricks and the rhythmic pattern of the roof tiles. It feels like you could reach out and touch the past, the history embedded in the material. The way the light catches the edges creates subtle shadows, adding depth and a sense of the building's form. Look at the chimney, rising with its twist like a strand of DNA, its diagonal stripes giving a gentle curve to the form. It makes me think about how artists and builders share a desire to create something that lasts, even if it is worn by time. Photography, like art, embraces ambiguity, inviting us to see differently.
