Here we have Zainul Abedin's ink on paper rendering of two crows, probably dashed off in 1943. Look at the immediacy of that line, how the whole image hangs on those bold, fluid gestures. I'm trying to imagine the artist's hand, the focused intensity, the quick decisions about where to put the weight of the ink. You can almost feel the brush dancing across the page. Notice how economical Abedin is with his strokes; he captures the essence of the crows with such minimal effort, their sleek bodies, and the almost human-like quality in their stance. It's like a fleeting moment frozen in time. This reminds me of other painters, maybe some of the Song Dynasty guys, who also knew how to capture so much with so little. It makes you think about the conversations that artists have across time, don't you think?
