This ceramic "House Group" was created by an artist from Nayarit, a region in western Mexico with a rich history dating back over two thousand years. Crafted without the use of the potter's wheel, the sculpture offers a fascinating glimpse into the domestic life of the Nayarit people. The figures, arranged within a house-like structure, invite us to reflect on the dynamics of family and community. The upper level displays multiple figures, sitting, talking, and lying down next to a dog, while on the bottom level there are several figures huddled together. There is an undeniable sense of intimacy and connection in this piece. The representation of both the upper and lower level may speak to the layered nature of social life. "House Group" presents us with a complex and intimate vision of daily existence.
