Alfred Stieglitz made this photograph, Songs of the Sky, with a camera, of course, but I can only imagine the darkroom alchemy that brought this image into being. It's a dance of light and shadow, a landscape born of atmosphere, and I can almost feel Stieglitz's anticipation, waiting for the clouds to align. He must have been looking up, searching for that perfect composition, that fleeting moment when the ordinary becomes sublime. There’s a quiet intensity to the image. The clouds morph into dreamscapes. It's not just about capturing a scene, but about translating an emotion, a feeling, onto paper. These photographs remind me of Turner’s paintings, the way they both captured the sublime. Artists are always in conversation like that, across time and media. This image invites us to look closer, to see beyond the surface, to find our own meaning in the shifting skies.
