Ivan Generalic gave us 'Funeral' and, in it, the figures stand together, some in silence, some praying, maybe muttering. I bet the painting emerged through feeling, intuition, and a bit of chance, much like the act of mourning itself. Just think of the artist, Generalic. What was he thinking when he laid down those colors, those shapes? The figures are outlined in dark paint, they seem to be participating in the scene, but also removed, in their own worlds. The paint isn't trying to trick you into thinking this is real. It's honest about being paint, about being a construction. What does this mean for us, the viewers? Maybe that painting, like a funeral, is a space for us to reflect, to feel, to remember. It is a shared expression across time, inspiring one another’s creativity. It embraces ambiguity and uncertainty, allowing for multiple interpretations, a conversation.
