This is a cane handle, probably from the Netherlands, maybe made of black horn, with a silver-colored plate. The horn has a deep polish, and this makes me think about craft and the human hand. I'm drawn to the polished horn and the way the light plays on its surface, it feels luxurious. You see the shape is functional, made to fit the hand, but there's also this attempt to elevate the everyday object through detail. Think about the textures here – the coolness of the silver against the warmth of the horn. It reminds me a little of the work of Brancusi, taking simple materials and elevating them to art through form and finish, making us consider the space around them, the light, the experience. What do you think?
