Editor: This is "Trio," an acrylic painting on canvas by Piroska Szanto, created in 1989. It has an interesting combination of abstraction and figuration... It reminds me of folk art but also something a bit surreal. What do you see in this piece? Curator: Well, the repeated horse imagery is interesting. Horses have long been symbolic in art. What do they evoke for you? Think about mythology, heraldry, and even our contemporary ideas of freedom. The three figures seem to overlap and almost merge... What might that signify, culturally or psychologically? Editor: That's interesting. I was mainly focused on the composition, but I can see how the symbol of the horse adds another layer. Are you suggesting that there’s some deeper cultural memory at work here? Curator: Absolutely! The horse isn't just an animal. It embodies different values across cultures - power, nobility, but also hard work, and even vulnerability. Think of depictions of horses through time—from cave paintings to equestrian statues. This piece almost feels like a modern echo of that lineage, doesn't it? Look at the simplified form: the horse has its own archetype, embedded in us through culture, just waiting to be expressed. Editor: That's a lot to consider. I like the idea of archetypes. Now, looking at how they are layered and their expressions I am sensing emotional relationships. Thank you for your insight, it changes my appreciation a lot. Curator: Indeed. Symbols, and how we engage with them, evolve, but never truly disappear.
