Eva Noe made this drawing, called "Headdress", using graphite and watercolor, and it's such an interesting piece to look at. The way the watercolor washes are laid down, so delicate and almost tentative, really draw you in. It’s like watching her think through the image. The texture is smooth, with the graphite lines creating this delicate framework, it's almost like a coloring book, but not quite. I'm drawn to the upper section of the headdress where the color is more concentrated and the details of the folds and drapery are described. You get a sense of the weight and volume of the fabric, even though the face is left blank. This drawing reminds me of those fashion sketches from the early 20th century, yet there's something so personal and intimate about the approach. It reminds you that art is ultimately a conversation.
