Robert Harris made this small painting of Brackley Beach with what looks like pretty loose brushwork. I love how he’s captured a moment, or maybe it’s more of a feeling of a day at the beach. There's this beautiful, almost hazy light that washes over everything. Look at the way he’s used these soft blues and whites for the sky, and then that deep indigo for the water, it’s really evocative. The paint looks pretty thin, almost like watercolor in places, which gives it that light, airy feel. I like the way the figures are just kind of suggested, quickly brushed in, like they're part of the environment. Check out the little dashes of white for the waves, how they catch the light, it’s just enough to give you a sense of movement. Harris reminds me a little of someone like Bonnard, that sense of fleeting, everyday beauty, the kind of paintings that just make you feel good. Anyway, that's how I see it; what do you think?
