Bernadette Resha made ‘Goldie’ with watercolors, and you can just feel the way she built up the petals, layer by translucent layer. The thing about watercolors is that they force you to be patient and go with the flow. I can imagine Bernadette, brush in hand, patiently coaxing the pigment across the paper, letting the water do its thing. Like a dance between control and surrender. Those strokes that form the petals, they're not just about depicting a flower, they’re about capturing the light, the warmth, the sheer exuberance of summer, don't you think? There’s a bit of Georgia O'Keeffe's magnified sensuality in it, but with its own spin. Artists are always riffing on each other, you know? It’s one big conversation across time. And with this painting, Bernadette adds her own voice, her own perspective, to that ongoing dialogue. It’s all so open, so fresh.
