This photograph of a Protestant church near Balaikota Park in Bandung, was taken by Neville Keasberry, a name that might not ring bells for most, but, hey, every artist has their moment, right? The stark blacks and whites create a sense of timelessness, don’t they? It’s almost like staring into a memory. I’m drawn to the bridge—the way it arches delicately over the water, connecting the viewer to the church. There's a strange geometry to the trees, repeating the steeple of the church. And look at that water. It makes me think of some of the early modernist photographers like Alfred Stieglitz, who tried to capture the feeling of a place. Keasberry is also trying to capture the spirit of a location. It's as if he is suggesting there is no true or definitive image, only interpretations of a scene.
