Studie 1890 - 1946

Cornelis Vreedenburgh created this sketch, titled "Studie," with pencil on paper. The most striking aspect of this drawing is its stark simplicity, with minimalistic lines sketching out a scene that hovers between representation and abstraction. The composition is sparse, with the majority of the page left intentionally blank, drawing attention to the few lines that are there. These lines form the basic structure of what appears to be a waterfront scene, rendered with such economy that we are left to fill in much of the detail ourselves. This technique invites us to engage actively with the artwork, projecting our own interpretations and experiences onto the scene. The texture of the paper is subtly visible, adding another layer of depth to the drawing.
