Wanda Gág made this small print called ‘Paper Cutter’ using black ink on paper. The artwork shows a paper cutter with a stack of paper next to it. Can you feel Gág’s hand as she carved away at the block? I imagine her inking the block, carefully placing the paper, and using a press to transfer the image. She might have been thinking about the tools artists use and how they can transform the world around them. The crisp lines and stark contrast create a sense of depth and texture. The white parts pop! I am super into the details. The stack of paper is a testament to her craft. It reminds me of other artists like Lynd Ward, who used wood engravings to tell stories. Artists have a conversation with one another, across time, inspiring each other to explore new ways of seeing. Isn't that cool?
