Kehinde Wiley made ‘Duc D’arenberg’ at some point, probably with oil paint. You can tell he loves old paintings, but wants to drag them into the now. Look at the horse’s butt - it's so smooth, like marble, it's a real classical move. But then BAM! There's this dude in a hoodie, like he just stepped out of Brooklyn. The clash is the point. Wiley's all about flipping the script, putting black and brown bodies in these super-formal, powerful poses. It's like saying, "We were always here, we always deserved this spotlight." It's not just about representation, it's about remixing history, and messing with our expectations. I think Poussin would have gotten a kick out of it.
