Curator: This photograph, simply titled "Untitled," is by Jack Gould. It captures two men in what appears to be a candid street scene. Editor: There's something wonderfully detached about this. It’s like glimpsing a memory, maybe not even my own. It feels like it belongs in an old film noir. Curator: Absolutely. The hats, the cigar, even the "United Cigars" storefront visible in the background. These create a powerful sense of time and place, don't they? Hats in particular are so interesting, historically. Editor: They do. But beyond the vintage markers, it’s the anonymity of the figures that grabs me. The man in the foreground has his back to us. It creates this intriguing sense of distance... Curator: It's a very straightforward composition, yet it suggests so much. The negative image creates an otherworldly feel. Editor: Makes you wonder what stories those two were sharing that day. Makes you wonder what those stories might mean to us now.
